Alter egos and the (de)construction of the self becomes a central concern in Cat Out of the Bag, exemplified by the emergence of drag subculture in the current mainstream consciousness. Through reenacting the steps of donning drag and creating a new person, Mark Robles excavates an underexplored part of his own person to reveal new possibilities.

Director's Statement

I have always been interested in the drag subculture. I wanted to take this opportunity to revisit a part of myself that I have never really explored before. Through the creative process, I made the conscious decision to go with the flow — observing how my mind and body speak and react; as a dancer, an artist and a teenager from my past with many edges untouched. This is a revelation and I invite the viewer to join in the journey of self-discovery.
